I'm home now! I'll be finishing the blog from home. I think that's okay!
On this day we were moving on to our next destination: Koh Samui. At this point I'm sick as a pup. It didn't really bother me the day before because the elephants were a major distraction. I was sniffling a lot, but other than that I was okay to go go go. This day, the 25th, I am a very sick pup. And I was about to get on an airplane.
We got a Grab from our guesthouse and made it to the airport in good time. We split up for lunch because the line for security was so tiny that we figured we'd have no problem splitting and meeting soon before boarding to go through security together. This changed dramatically pretty soon after this decision was made. Brooke and I noticed the flood of people lining up and quickly tried to message the other two... But we never got a response! We got in line hoping they'd see the message and come quickly to line up. I'll say, this was a tight situation in my mind. As we were approaching the metal detectors we saw Kiana and Olivia lining up. We all made it, and they still hadn't seen my message!
The plane was a horrible experience for me because my sinuses were so stopped up that the pressure change screwed my ears up to no return. In the plane I thought my drums would burst. Off the plane I couldn't get them to pop back into place. I absolutely could not hear myself for a couple of days after this, and I was VERY bothered by it. I spent the rest of this journey pretty frustrated and sad. Oh and tired... I'd popped some benadryl and it was hitting me HARD.
Hopping off the plane we were in a city called Surat Thani. From here we needed to take a ferry. We had to find ferry tickets. The process, looking back now, was rather seamless. However, at the time I was fairly stressed due to not being able to hear out of my ears or breath out of my nose. Also dozing off.
The ferry people let us buy a joint bus+ferry+van package. This easy transport stuff is extremely common in Thailand. They really know how to move tourists around.
We bee lined to the bus that took us about an hour away to the ferry pier. We hopped right onto the ferry and found seats. This boat was larrrrrge. I'd never ridden on a ferry like this before. It was a real transportation ship, not just a ferry across the bay to the Statue of Liberty. This was heavy duty.
We sat down inside the boat and then got right back up to go sit on top of the boat. I gotta say, this was awesome. I realized it was awesome, but I'll be honest- I spent most of the three hour trip with my head down. I was so sad to be sick.
Eventually I chugged a coffee energy gel I'd bought from REI. This helped me get up and hang off the side of the boat with Brooke for a little while before we docked. Not all was lost.
When we hopped off the boat we needed to get in our little van. This van would take us to our hotel. The ride was about 45 mins long.
FINALLY we made it to the hotel. The girl who runs it is a kind Aussie girl. She greeted us and helped us find our way around the place. We headed up to our rooms and I was SO happy to finally be done travelling... It took us an entire day. And normally this would be fine (I kind of live for that type of thing, actually) but not today. :-(
Brooke and I left for some food. We knew of one vegan/veg place in town already, and it was actually just a 4 minute walk from our place! Greenlight Cafe & Bar. We headed there and Kiana/Olivia headed out for some street meat (smeat, as it came to be called). Notable here is that I ordered a Immune Boost juice from their juice bar. I HAD to get better.
Back home, I ran up to the roof to check out the view. It was INCREDIBLE. I'll never forget that hotel's view.
