We were the only guests at our guesthouse in Ayutthaya. It was a nice place and our host was super sweet. When we woke up to begin our day of sightseeing she arranged for a tuk tuk to come grab us early so we could go ahead and start running all over town. This tuk tuk service cost 1000 baht for 6 hours. That’s roughly $30 total, and we split it between the 4 of us. This service turns out to be the only solution to seeing the whole city in a short time frame. Our driver would pull up to a sight, point us in the right direction to enter, wait for us to finish having a look around, and then be there to scoop us up when we got done. So convenient.
For our #OOTD I dressed up like an American dad tourist and Brooke dressed like a goddess.
I thought about going into detail about each wat/sight we saw, but that’s too much to ask. We did over a dozen things that day and we were VERY hot and exhausted. I thought my travel companions were going to murder me. I just kept shoving water down their throats.
I’ll highlight a regret here: I regret not being able to read or research each place we went to. Guide services or English signs weren’t really available. We didn’t get a good understanding of history or significance while we were in Ayutthaya. These things may have helped everyone stay enthusiastic. This was when we created a mood grading scale whereupon we can each report how close we are to nutting up. One of us in particular was at a 10/10 for a large portion of the afternoon.
We thanked our driver when our 6 hours was up, but she told us she’d come back to take us to our night train later that evening. Our B&B host set a fan up for us when we arrived back home, which was a blessing. We were crumbling at that point. We rested, but then we needed some refreshments. Kiana found us a place to go... But then Olivia ripped her pants and that was a horrible catalyst. By the time we reached our refreshment location we would have paid 9000 baht for a beer.
Chilling did us well. We made it back to the B&B in time for two of us to take a shower before our tuk tuk came to carry us over to the train station. We had a night train to catch!
Our night train was absolutely wonderful and I think we all agree that it was one of the best rides of our lives. Eleven and a half hours on a train sounds horrible, but we were so comfortable in 2nd class! We got some incredible and much needed rest!! The next morning everyone was back down to a 1/10! I’m excited to see how first class is in a few days.
Bahahahahahaha that was funny. Good read.
